What people are saying about Chrome Seekers
This past October, my buddy and I decided to sign up for an annual hunting trip the Field and Stream Team at our church goes on every year. The main attractions of the weekend were deer and duck hunting. However, we decide that we wanted to leave a day early and squeeze in some Salmon fishing on our way. The both of us are big bass fishermen, but neither of us have ever been salmon fishing. We had planned to just find a place to fish by asking some gentlemen in the group and then just going and winging it. We talked to four or five different people about it and we received the same advice from each person. Everyone we spoke to told us about this guy, Dan, who was hands down the guy we needed to contact if we wanted to actually have a chance of catching fish. We took their advice and contacted Dan about guiding us. I am VERY glad we made the call.
The only word I can use to describe what that fishing trip would have been like had we not had Dan to guide us, debacle! Dan was not only extremely knowledgeable about where to fish, when to fish and what bait to fish with, he also made us feel at ease and comfortable enough to ask questions and screw up. For example, after spending ten minutes rigging up my first line, with all stuff he provided, and explaining what he was doing and why, I snagged it on a tree on the other side of the river on my second cast. Dan didn’t hesitate at all to help me try and get the snag loose, and then when that was unsuccessful, he immediately rigged up another line to get me fishing again. Dan was checking reports the entire day as we made our trip to the river, and although most reports made it seem like fishing was pretty slow across the board, he landed on taking us to Traverse City. The river was being fished pretty hard when we got there but he found a great spot to get us started. We moved around a little but ended up back in our original spot. We fished all day and while we only saw two other people even hook into anything, we managed to have better luck. We landed two fish and hooked into four others.
For anyone that is looking to get into this type of fishing, I would highly recommend using Dan as a guide. Even though Dan taught my friend and me enough in one day of fishing that we feel comfortable in doing it ourselves, we will be using his services next time we make it out somewhere. It was nice to not just have a guide that had the fishing knowledge to make our trip a success, but also to have someone that we got along with and would fish with regardless of him being a guide or not.
